The heat is pretty intense here hovering around 83 degrees. It gets comfortable in the evening and we’re taking dips in the canal to cool off. We were met by a FTA angel who supplied us with fresh water and a cold root beer. Betty is her name and she is the angel on this part of the trail. She even went to the trouble to greet a fishing boat and asked them if they had any fish to spare. They produced four freshly caught fish. Alan was able to clean them and built a fire, so we had fresh catch of the day along with red beans and rice. Heavenly. Another biker named ‘Croc’ joined us for a while. He hikes in Crocs, hence the trail name. We need to get an early start tomorrow to beat the heat and get a few more miles to our next campsite. Betty has offered to meet us at a point to take me into the post office at Okeechobee for our first mail drop. Hopefully the package has been in good hands this past week.
